Irwin graduated from Faculdade de Medicina Da Universidade Do Brasil, Rio de Janeiro Medical School in 1954. His Internship was in Albany Medical Center Hospital, Albany, N. Y. 1955-1956
His Residency (General Surgery) was in Manhattan Veterans Administration Hospital, N.Y. 1957 – 1958 N.Y. School of Medicine, N.Y., N.Y., Bellevue Hospital, N.Y., N.Y. 1959-1962. Private Practice Orthopedic Surgery, Board Certified 1960 was in Southern California, Tucson, Arizona, and Amarillo, Texas.
